Summary

In Denmark hippotherapy – carried out by authorized physiotherapists – has become an integrated therapy of the National Health Service. It is offered for free for severe physically disabled people. The improvement of the patients is essential in practicing hippotherapy. The physiotherapist can use three different tools: choosing different horses, changing the saddling and incorporating increases challenges in her training program. The efficiency of hipppotherapy has been documented among others by investigations of patient suffering from: low back pain, multiple sclerosis, dementia of Alzheimer’s type.
