Summary
Lower limb deep vein thrombosis and post thrombotic syndrome represent significant clinical, social and economic issue concerning at least 1% of adult population. Acute thrombus embolization of pulmonary artery causes direct threat to patients’ life. The paper reviews topics related to pathophysiology, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of acute deep vein thrombosis, chronic vein insufficiency and post thrombotic syndrome. Special concern is given on combination of antithrombotic agents with compressive- and physio-therapy in prevention and treatment of acute deep vein thrombosis. The role of rehabilitation in prophylaxis and management of post thrombotic syndrome is discussed.
