Summary

The availability of Internet triggered development of e-commerce, and also e-health. The term “telerehabilitation” was applied first time in 1996. Telemedical applications are used in various situations, from rehabilitation of patients with acute myocardial infarction to rehabilitation of patients with skeletal system injuries. Telerehabilitation is not only the part of telemedicine, but is used also in relation to various aspects of independent living. Specific factors influencing development of telerehabilition include shortening patient’s stay in medical facilities through rehabilitation at home, the improvement of the results of occupational and psychiatric therapy, if delivered in home environment, the use of telemedical system for support of care givers, frequently taking care of their family member, and finally the improvement of health personnel visits.
